Electrical Panel Upgrades in Katy, TX

100A to 200A upgrades, sub-panels and breaker box replacement for homes that have outgrown their service.

Your electrical panel is the heart of the house. Many Katy homes built in the 1980s and 90s still run on 100- or 125-amp service that was never meant for today’s EV chargers, tankless water heaters, hot tubs and home offices.

We upgrade panels to 200-amp service, replace outdated or recalled breaker boxes, and add sub-panels for garages, workshops and additions. Every panel we install is permitted, inspected and labeled circuit by circuit.

What's included

  • 100A / 125A to 200A service upgrades
  • Breaker box replacement
  • Federal Pacific, Zinsco and Sylvania panel replacement
  • Sub-panel installation
  • Meter base and service entrance work
  • Whole-home surge protection at the panel

What to expect

A load calculation first

We calculate your home’s actual demand before recommending a size. Sometimes a sub-panel solves the problem for far less than a full upgrade.

Permits and utility coordination handled

We pull the permit with the City of Katy, Harris County or Fort Bend County, schedule the inspection and coordinate the CenterPoint disconnect and reconnect.

Usually done in one day

Power is typically off for four to six hours. We plan the day with you so refrigerators, medical equipment and work-from-home needs are covered.

How the job goes

  1. Consultation. We start with a thorough look at your home’s electrical needs. You tell us what you want to accomplish; we map the path to get there and flag anything we see along the way.
  2. Planning. A written scope of work with a firm price. No surprises. We design a solution that fits your home and your budget, and explain the options when there is more than one.
  3. Execution. Our licensed electricians complete the work with care. Clean uniforms, clean workspaces, clean results — and someone who will explain what they are doing if you ask.
  4. Certification. Every project ends with a full test, the inspection where one is required, and documentation. Your electrical system, verified and ready for the future.

Questions we hear about panel upgrades

How do I know if I need a panel upgrade?

Common signs: breakers trip when you run two appliances at once, lights dim when the A/C starts, there is no room for new breakers, or you are adding an EV charger, hot tub or large appliance. A panel over 25 years old is also worth an inspection.

What is wrong with Federal Pacific panels?

Federal Pacific Stab-Lok breakers have a documented history of failing to trip during an overload. Many insurers will not write a policy on a home that still has one. We replace them routinely.

Do I need 200 amps for an EV charger?

Not always. A Level 2 charger needs a 40- to 60-amp circuit, which some 150-amp panels can support. The load calculation tells us for sure, and we will not sell you a panel you do not need.

Will my power be off all day?

Plan on four to six hours. The utility reconnect and inspection timing are the variables; we schedule both ahead of time to keep the outage short.

“After comparing three quotes, Capital Care stood out for their transparency and professionalism. The panel upgrade was done in a single day with zero surprises on the final bill.”
